Interactive Metronome

Some children have difficulty developing an accurate sense of timing, rhythm, and sequencing. This can lead to difficulty with focusing attention, learning, coordinating skilled movement, and sometimes behavior.

The Interactive Metronome (IM) is a computer-based program that helps the child develop a better sense of timing and rhythmic physical response or coordination. It has been shown to be effective for children with ADD/ADHD, impulsive and aggressive behaviors, motor coordination and planning difficulties.

A controlled study of the effectiveness of IM for use with ADHD boys was published in the April 2001 edition of the American Journal of Occupational Therapy. It is also being studied for use with adults with Parkinson's Disease and in the enhancement of advanced athletic and musical skills.

IM can be used as part of an OT treatment plan or as a skill-enhancement program for kids and adults who just need a little tune-up. We'll discuss how IM can help you or your child as we get started.
